Magic: The Gathering’s next big set, the super-adorable Bloomburrow, is gearing up for launch on August 2nd, and once again we’ve got a special, exclusive card preview to whet your appetite for tiny warriors and woodland adventures.
Bloomburrow will see players venture into a woodland world in what’s easily one of the most fresh and exciting MtG sets in recent memory, giving echoes of The Animals of Farthing Wood, The Borrowers or just about anything from Enid Blyton. Of course, there promises to be as much action with swords and spells as there are button noses and fuzzy feet, so expect things to get fierce in the forest.
If you’re all-in on this buffet of fantastical fauna (buffet may be the wrong word in this situation?), you can duck on over to the official page for Magic: The Gathering Bloomburrow and don’t forget to attend your local pre-release event for the set – you can head here to locate your nearest pre-release at a Wizards Play Networks store.
Without further ado though, let’s take a look at our exclusive preview of one of the brand-new cards in MtG’s Bloomburrow release, and my apologies in advance to all of the cute and cuddly critters soon to be washed away by the…
Calamitous Tide
Calamitous Tide is a blue uncommon sorcery with a cost of {4}{B}{B} and is pretty straightforward as far as enormous tidal waves go – it allows the casting player to return up to two target creatures to their respective owners’ hands, and then draw two cards before also discarding a card. It’s a fun play on the idea of a wall of water sweeping the field before bringing something new to the surface, and I’m excited to see where it fits into a larger strategy.
The card’s art comes from Samuelle Bandini and the flavour text reads, “Zoraline turned her attention to the shore. Helga and Ral’s conversation quickly faded from her mind as she watched the giant wave approach.”
