Nearly Half A Million Baldur’s Gate 3 Players Have Had Their Minds Absolutely Flayed

We're not judging.

It’s already been a whole year since Baldur’s Gate 3 launched and absolutely blew RPG fans away with its immense scope and rich world, taking out multiple game of the year award wins and setting a new benchmark for CRPGs.

And, of course, developer Larian Studios celebrated the game’s anniversary in typical fashion – with a whole heap of stats that show exactly what players have been up to these past 12 months.

There are spoilers ahead – you’ve been warned!

Through a series of infographics, we’ve learned a number of incredibly interesting, sometimes unsettling facts about the choices that players have made in Baldur’s Gate 3 and the numerous successes and failures along the way. 1.9 million players, for example, were turned into a cheese wheel by the djinni, Akabi in Act 3, while 3.5 million of us managed to get the better of Akabi and got to pay a visit to some dinosaurs as a result.

Further down in the data we see that an overwhelming majority of players elected to play through the game using a custom avatar, and within those 15% picked the Dark Urge backstory. Things get a bit hornier next with a look at which companions and acquaintances folks were hooking up with. Shadowheart leads the way in smooching with a total of 27 million recorded kisses, while 48.8% of players experienced her final romance scene.

Meanwhile, over 650,000 of us boned Halsin, and of those it was a 70/30 split between him being in human or bear form, which is a disappointing loss for the bear lovers out there. A whopping 1.1 million people did the deed with the Emperor, and of those a respectable 407,000 chose to do it with the lights on (i.e. with the Emperor in his fully tentacular form).

There’s a whole heap more to look through, which you can see below, including a breakdown of how everyone’s games ended – so again beware of spoilers here:

In his original review, Harry scored Baldur’s Gate 3 a huge 10/10, saying, “Baldur’s Gate 3 is a landmark achievement for CRPGs and gaming at large. The only thing more staggering than its immense scope and density of systems is the quality in which it’s all presented. Its unwavering flexibility and accommodation for player choice is intoxicating, and the replay value on offer here will no doubt cement Baldur’s Gate 3 as a timeless and regularly revisited masterpiece. For a game as rich and complex as this, it also works surprisingly well on console.”
