After revealing some of the Commander decks from the upcoming Magic: The Gathering Final Fantasy set earlier this week, we got a preview of the set this morning with new cards and product reveals.
The highly anticipated set includes retro treatments and familiar cards returning as reprints. The set will feature characters spanning the entire mainline Final Fantasy titles. Cards from Final Fantasy character designers Yoshitaka Amano and Tetsuya Nomura were also featured in the preview.

This isn’t the first gaming collaboration we’ve seen from Magic: The Gathering. Last year, we saw Assassin’s Creed and Fallout sets, along with many other gaming titles that have appeared in the past.
There will be a few cool new features with the cards including:
-
Saga Creatures – Summons are making an appearance in this set, as part of Magic: The Gathering’s first-ever Saga creatures. Players can call the summons for aid in battle.
-
Double-Faced Cards – Double-faced cards return in Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY. By casting the front side of the card for its mana cost and fulfilling its required conditions, players can transform it to experience its alternate form! Iconic FINAL FANTASY characters, minigames, story moments, and more are represented on double-faced cards throughout the set.
-
More To Come – Many of the special mechanics featured in the Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY set are yet to be revealed. Stay tuned for more information.
We should see more from this set before the release so get your wallets ready. MTG x Final Fantasy is out on 13th June 2025.
