With the news of EB Games New Zealand closing up shop later this month, naturally, people’s thoughts went straight to EB Games Australia, and even more so with a small number of Australian stores closing this month.
We often get word about local stores closing, and the reality of retail at the moment is that it’s not necessarily a big deal in the context of how a company is performing, as it can often be to renovations, or rent raises, or a number of other reasons that lead to these stores closing.
As detailed by Vooks, this is in-fact the case for a number of Aussie EB Games stores that have recently closed or are about to close, and absolutely poorly timed given EB Games New Zealand closing, but not necessarily a marker of anything greater.
In terms of what’s been reported by Vooks, or from other customers that have contacted us, there are two stores in Victoria, five in NSW, two in WA and one each in QLD and WA closing in January, but there’s not a huge reason to worry in the context of what’s gone down in New Zealand with Australia seemingly still performing incredibly well.
A spokesperson from EB Games Australia had the below to share: “Thanks for reaching out. As part of our usual network updates, a small number of EB Games stores will close this month. Customers of those locations have already been notified directly. Beyond the stores already communicated to customers, we don’t have any additional updates to share.”
