Nintendo and Illumination have debuted a new 30-second TV spot for the upcoming The Super Mario Bros. Movie during the NFC Championships.
Titled “Smash” and very much living up to that name, the trailer expands on the short slice we saw in the most recent full trailer that gave us our first look at Donkey Kong facing off against Mario on a Mario Bros arcade/Smash Bros-esque stage. This time around, we see a bit more of the face-off with Mario picking up the iconic cat power-up and DK subsequently cackling at his very threatening-looking foe – along with our first listen at Seth Rogen’s voice which sounds… well, like Seth Rogen.
Also, at one point he tells Mario he’s going to die, which seems a little un-Nintendo but take a look:
As previously announced, the film is being produced in collaboration between Shigeru Miyamoto/Nintendo and Chris Meledandri/Illumination and will feature a star-studded cast including Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Charlie Day, Seth Rogen, Keegan-Michael Key and Charles Martinet.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is so far set to release in US theatres on April 7th, 2023 and in Japan on April 28th, 2023.
