A blistering three-minute The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom trailer dropped overnight, lighting up the internet with one of the best looks at the game we’ve had yet. The trailer showcased teases of everything fans have been eager to see like new and returning characters, hints at the game’s plot, wild new gameplay concepts, towns, and the appearance of the series’ iconic villain, Ganondorf.
Now, none other than Matthew Mercer – one of the most prolific voice actors in anime, TV and video games as well as the Dungeon Master in the super-popular Dungeons & Dragons web series, Critical Role – has revealed that his is the voice behind Ganondorf in Tears of the Kingdom.
I just got the go-ahead from Nintendo, so I can FINALLY announce my absolute pleasure to be voicing Ganondorf in the Legend of #Zelda : #TearsoftheKingdom.
An immense honor that I have thrown myself into doing justice. pic.twitter.com/GDtoWRUHDx

Mercer says in his initial tweet and follow-up replies:
“I just got the go-ahead from Nintendo, so I can FINALLY announce my absolute pleasure to be voicing Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. An immense honour that I have thrown myself into doing justice.
“I have been an immense Legend of Zelda fan since I was a child, and Ganondorf has been one of my favourite antagonists… to the point where I portrayed this green-skinned menace for my web series over a decade ago!
“Many of you know the weight of expectation on my shoulders for this, and I hope to do you proud. A huge thank you to Nintendo and the entire Tears of the Kingdom team for entrusting me with such a badass.”
