More Nintendo Movie Adaptations Have Been Hinted At By Shigeru Miyamoto

Here we go!

It’s no secret that The Super Mario Bros. Movie has done incredibly well since it released a the beginning of April, smashing open weekend records at the box office and going on to become the biggest ever video game to film adaptation.

It’s a fair assumption, then, that Nintendo would see all of that money coming in and want to keep it going with even more big (and small) screen projects based on its wealth of beloved video game IP. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to have some official word that more is on the way, and Mr. Nintendo himself, Shigeru Miyamoto, has already been dropping hints to that effect.

In an interview with Japanese financial outlet, Nikkei, Miyamoto has reportedly (translated by VGC) said, “Please keep an eye on our next production. Nintendo is like a talent agency. We have many other entertainers (on our roster),” implying that Nintendo might look to some of its other popular characters and properties to further its cinematic presence.

“There are various ways to develop characters (for the screen), including characters that are suitable for film and characters that are well known.”

On the week that The Super Mario Bros. Movie launched, ScreenRant published an interview with Miyamoto and Illumination CEO Chris Meladandri, in which Melandandri had said, “We are so focused right now on this movie, all the way up to Wednesday, and how the audience engages with the film. Nintendo and Illumination have had a really rewarding collaboration. Mr. Miyamoto and his colleagues have invited me to join the board of directors of Nintendo, and we’re working together into the future with me in that capacity. But it’s hard for us to talk about anything else at this time”

While Miyamoto had also added, “There’s nothing I can really comment on at the moment. But we started with the fact that we have a shared vision of creation, so I think there’ll be opportunities in the future.”
