A New Nintendo Switch 2 Patent Shows Off Mouse Mode, A New Pro Controller And A Charging Stand

Interesting!

A new patent has seemingly revealed a bunch of new Nintendo Switch 2 information confirming the rumoured mouse mode, but also showing off a new pro controller that will seemingly have the same functionality and a new charging dock that seemingly takes advantage of the new magnetic snapping functionality.

The patent for the Joy-Con says that the improved Joy-Con controllers have “a front surface, an upper surface, a first side surface, a second side surface, a direction input unit, a first upper surface button, and a sensor for mouse operation.” it continues to say “the sensor for mouse operation detects reflected light from a detected surface,” which is exactly how a mouse works.

Interestingly enough, the patent also goes on to show off a Pro controller which can seemingly be split into two to have that same mouse functionality, which would lead us to believe that if this ends up being the final Pro controller that Nintendo is going into this technology in a big way, which will be interesting to see.

In less surprising news, the patent also shows off a new Joy-Con charging stand which has the Joy-Con controllers magnetically snap into the charger upright, which makes sense.

It makes sense that Nintendo would be patenting this all so heavily as we’ve never seen controllers magnetically snap on in this way, and obviously PC handhelds are a much bigger deal than they were a decade ago, so Nintendo will want to ensure all of this innovative tech stays inhouse.

All will seemingly be revealed on April 2nd when the Nintendo Direct happens. All the Aussie times are HERE.
