Sony Computer Entertainment president Jim Ryan had spoken to CNBC about interest in the PlayStation VR headset being “significant”. He has also stated that going by pre-order and initial sales data, he expects sales to be in the “many hundreds of thousands”.
PlayStation VR is already sold out in Australia with PlayStation Australia urging gamers to pre-order the device now if they want to receive it before Christmas.
A VR report released in March estimated that 2.6 million PlayStation VR units would be sold by the end of 2016. It has this week updated the report to state that demand for PlayStation VR could increase in November once that PlayStation 4 Pro has released.
Ryan has also spoken about Sony’s ability to replenish stock “We know that the replenishment cycle is a good one, production is going exactly as we anticipated. We have made decisions to further increase capacity at the back end of 2016 and into 2017, so there are going to be a lot of PlayStation VRs around the world.”
The next PlayStation VR shipment is due into Australia in November.
