Activision have released the launch trailer for Black Ops 4, which a poignant reminder of just how different the game is going to be compared to the Call of Duty games before it. Of course, we already knew it was going to be different.
The new battle royale mode, Blackout, is unlike anything we’re accustomed to in COD games, and does not rely on the run-and-gun gameplay that’s become second nature to players. But the video below confirms the game is straying further away from any semblance of realness and wholeheartedly embracing the arcade-iness long associated with the best-selling franchise.
Cutting between footage of the multiplayer, Blackout and Zombies modes, the trailer is kind of bonkers. That whole Colosseum tiger fight is insanity. That being said, I think I’m more excited for this COD game than I have been for the last few given that it is so different. Call of Duty has long been accused of rehashing the same formula in every installment, but Treyarch’s changes to Black Ops 4 seem more drastic then anything we’ve seen in while.
Black Ops 4 is out on October 12th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
