Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Will Cost More On PS5/Xbox Series X With A Confusing Upgrade Path

As we wrote about earlier today, Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is releasing on November 13th for PS4, Xbox One and PC with the PS5/Xbox Series X versions set to launch alongside those consoles. In a similar fashion to NBA 2K21, the next-gen path is confusing.

Straight up, the PS5/Xbox Series X version of the game will cost $10 more (EB Games already has it listed for $120). If you buy the PS4 or Xbox One version of the game and want to upgrade, it gets difficulty depending on which platform you’re on.

Call Of Duty: Black Op Cold War’s Campaign Has Open World Elements, Multiple Endings And Side Missions

Obviously, both the PS4/Xbox One versions will be playable on their respective next-gen consoles (but these won’t have any enhancements). If you buy the digital cross-gen bundle, you’re actually saving from buying at EB Games, with it only setting you back $109.95 digitally (the standard edition is $99).

If you buy the PS4 version physically and want to upgrade to the PS5 version, you’ll need to pay an upgrade fee. If you’re wanting to upgrade from the physical Xbox One version of the game to the Xbox Series X version, this won’t be possible apparently, and you’ll need to buy the game again.

  • PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5: Purchase the Cross-Gen Bundle on PlayStation 4 and receive a digital entitlement to both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game. The PlayStation 4 version will download immediately to your console when Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches on November 13th. The PlayStation 5 version of the game will automatically become available for download from your account library once the PlayStation 5 launches later this year. If you purchase the Cross-Gen Bundle on PlayStation 5, you will also receive an entitlement to the PlayStation 4 version of the game.
  • Xbox One and Xbox Series X: Purchase the Cross-Gen Bundle on Xbox One and receive a digital entitlement to both the Xbox One and Xbox Series X versions of the game. The Xbox One version will download immediately to your console when Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches on November 13th. The Xbox Series X version of the game will automatically become available for download from your account library once the Xbox Series X launches later this year. If you purchase the Cross-Gen Bundle on Xbox Series X, you will also receive an entitlement to the Xbox One version of the game.
