The Last Of Us: Part 3 Has A Plot But The Game Isn’t Being Made Just Yet

It’s been confirmed that Naughty Dog has worked on a basic plot outline for The Last Of Us Part II, but it doesn’t sound like it’ll be the studio’s next game.

On an episode of the Script Apart podcast, which Druckmann was on to talk about The Last Of Us Part II, he delved into a possible sequel.

As detailed by IGN, Druckmann said: “I don’t know how much I want to reveal… [co-writer Halley Gross] and I did write an outline for a story, that we’re not making – but I hope one day can see the light of day – that explores a little bit what happens after this game. We’ll see.”

Speaking more about the sequel, Druckmann said that there’s been quite a bit of discussion internally about Part 3, but then goes on to say just how much work it takes to bring a game like this together.

It’s unclear what Naughty Dog is currently working on, although we know that The Last Of Us Part II is getting a standalone multiplayer mode at some point, and rumours were recently circulating that the original game is being remade with at least part of Naughty Dog taking charge on this project.

Speaking more about the process about how the studio decides what to work on next, Druckmann said: “After we finish one of our big titles, we take a long time to explore different ideas, whether it’s going to be Last of Us III, whether it’s something new, whether there’s some old franchise we want to go back to. I like to fully explore all of those, then look at, like: okay, we have all of these ideas in front of us. As a studio, what do we want to commit to? Because it’s a huge commitment – monetary, time, passion, talent, so you think about all the opportunity costs that come with that.”
