New PS5 Model CFI-1200

Another New PS5 Model Is Releasing Very Soon Which Should Allow For Faster Console Production

The CFI-1200 model might have a new chipset.

UPDATE: Australia is once again the first country to get the 2022 PS5 console revision and we’ve got the first details HERE.

It has been revealed by Japanese retailers that Sony will release a third PS5 model in the coming weeks, with the new CFI-1200 model set to launch in Japan on September 15th (the same day of the price hike in Japan).

We don’t have concrete information about what this new model will add/change, but it’s been speculated that an upcoming PS5 model will use a new AMD 6nm chipset. Because this is a newer chip, its availability should be a lot better and will allow Sony to produce PS5 consoles at a much faster rate.

Even though the chipset is quite different to the custom 7nm AMD CPU already in the PS5, it’s not expected that there will be any major performances changes, with Sony making the change purely for production efficiency.

At this exact point last year, Sony dropped a new PS5 model dubbed the CFI-1102A and with this new model came a 300 gram drop in weight as well as a new screw for the stand that didn’t require the use of a screwdriver.

Interestingly enough, Australia was the first country to get the new model last time, so we’ll be keeping a very keen eye on this in the next stock drop which is due to be in the next week or so.

It’s worth mentioning that despite the fact that Sony said that the PS5 price increase would take place immediately, people that picked up their PS5s over the weekend were charged the launch price. The price hike goes into effect on September 15th in Japan (same day as the new model drop), so we’d suspect that maybe Australia will see that same price hike whenever the new model drops into Australia too.

We’ll keep you posted as learn more about this new PS5 model as well as when it lands in Australia.
