The First Twisted Metal Poster Trailer Has Dropped

Sweet.

Update: The first teaser trailer for the Twisted Metal series, which premieres on July 27th, has arrived!

The short, one-minute trailer shows main character John Doe (played by Anthony Mackie) driving down a dilapidated road in the iconic Roadkill car, blasting some Gorillaz from his “road mix” CD. We also get a quick look at Samoa Joe as Sweet Tooth (who’ll be voiced by Will Arnett).

Check it out:

Synopsis: Twisted Metal, a half-hour live-action TV series based on the classic PlayStation game series, is a high-octane action comedy, based on an original take by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and written by Michael Jonathan Smith, about a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a badass axe-wielding car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.

We’ve finally got our first small look at Twisted Metal, the new series from Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Production, based on the series of post-apocalyptic vehicular combat games by the same name.

It comes via the first official poster for the series, depicting the series’ star Anthony Mackie as John Doe in the iconic Roadkill, with Will Arnett’s Sweet Tooth seen in the background. It’s a teaser of the style and aesthetic the show is going for, which has been pegged as an “action comedy” that follows Doe, an amnesiac milkman, on a mission to deliver a package across a wasteland packed with marauders in all manner of highly-destructive vehicles.

The series will feature Anthony Mackie, Will Arnett, Stephanie Beatriz, Thomas Haden Church and Neve Campbell and premieres on Peacock in the US on July 27th. For Aussies, it’ll be coming to Stan.

A trailer for the series is also promised to drop very soon, within the next 24 hours, so we’ll update this story when that happens. For now, you can see the poster below:

PlayStation still has quite a few notable TV adaptations of its franchises up its sleeve, aside from the obvious second season of the wildly-successful The Last of Us series on HBO.

God of War is one major example, with Amazon having green-lit production last year. The God of War TV show is being developed in conjunction with Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions and has some big names attached, including The Expanse’s Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby as well as The Wheel of Time’s Rafe Judkins as showrunner. From the official description:

The series follows Kratos, the God of War, who, after exiling himself from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, hangs up his weapons forever in the Norse realm of Midgard. When his beloved wife dies, Kratos sets off on a dangerous journey with his estranged son to spread her ashes from the highest peak—his wife’s final wish. Kratos soon realizes the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one which will test the bonds between father and son, and force Kratos to battle new Gods and monsters for the fate of the world.
