EA Sports has revealed at least one of the cover designs for its first post-FIFA football game, EA Sports FC 24, debuting the art and feature athletes for the Ultimate Edition of the game. That’s “athletes” plural because the design features 31 star players in total, with players ranging a number of clubs, nations and eras including names like David Beckham, Pelé, Zidane, Samantha Kerr and Son Heung-min.
Thing is, while the cover looks alright as a whole, on close inspection it gets a touch weird. Some of the faces look fine, but some of them admittedly look quite low-quality, or exhibit odd or deadpan expressions that have fans absolutely roasting the art in the replies. It’s unfortunate because it definitely comes off like a great celebration of a diverse crowd of great players, but the execution has certainly invited the inevitable comparisons to the FIFA-era of EA Sports’ football games.
For what it’s worth, EA Sports is set to reveal more about the game, including the rest of the cover line-up, release date, pricing and gameplay details, on Friday July 14 at 2.30AM AEST. Which is definitely exciting for football video game fans, but hasn’t stopped anyone from making comparisons to The Sims, like the below examples:
The stars of The World’s Game are in the club.
