Update: Months after creator Sam Barlow let social media know it was happening, the PS5 release of the critically acclaimed Immortality has been confirmed and it’s coming very soon on January 23rd. You can wishlist it on the PlayStation Store right here.
Immortality first launched in August 2022, where it immediately gained critical acclaim and became an instant indie favourite in the inevitable end-of-year lists. It took multiple awards including a Best Performer win for star Manon Gage at the Golden Joystick Awards and nominations for Best Narrative and Best Game Direction at The Game Awards 2022.
The game sees players scrub through clips from three complete fictional movies across the 1960s, 1970s and 1990s, interacting with objects, characters and other elements in the full-motion video sequences to be taken to a new sequence or behind-the-scenes and piece together the mystery of a missing actress.
We gave Immortality a huge 9.5/10 in our review, saying “Immortality ambitiously succeeds at evolving the formats introduced in Her Story and Telling Lies to offer some of Sam Barlow’s best work yet and one of gaming’s most well-justified open-world experiences. Bolstered by some fantastic performances and a compelling mystery to uncover, it’s engrossing and engaging from beginning to end. While it might assume some prior knowledge in telling it’s underlying story, Immortality is an experience that’s not to be missed and one that I’ll never stop thinking about. It is truly fantastic and well worth your time.”
Seemingly out of nowhere, Immortality creator Sam Barlow has confirmed that previously-Xbox, PC and mobile exclusive game will be getting a PS5 release at some point in the future.
Responding to a fan’s tweet asking if there were plans for a PS5 version of Immortality, Barlow simply responded with “Working on it :)”
