Days Gone Developer Sony Bend Studio’s Next Game Looks To Be A Live Service AAA Title

Weeks Gone, Months Even

While we still know very little about what’s being worked on within PlayStation’s Bend Studio post-2019’s Days Gone, other than the fact that the team is working on a brand-new IP, a newly-discovered job listing (thanks Games Radar) has hinted at what we might be able to expect.

There are a number of details within the ad for a Lead Project Manager at Sony Bend Studio that strongly suggest the project is a live service AAA title.

“Sony Bend Studio, world-class creator of Days Gone, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and Syphon Filter, is seeking outstanding talent to join our passionate and creative family in crafting our next high-profile AAA title,” the listing begins.

Further call-outs more directly speaking to the idea of a live service game, such as the need for, “Hands-on game development experience in leadership roles shipping AAA live service games,” as well as “Proven experience (5+ years) in project management within the gaming industry, a deep understanding of game development cycles, processes, and latest trends with an emphasis on live operations.”

While notes like these don’t necessarily guarantee that a live service game will be the end result, and the studio could simply be open to it as they figure out the scope of their game, it seems quite likely. You can see the job post in full right here.

It might be surprising to learn that Sony is actively hiring for another live service game, after it’s been seemingly pulling back on the idea in recent months, but it’s also had a decent amount of success with some projects in the live service landscape – notably the recent Helldivers 2, which is going gangbusters.

“Helldivers 2 is a masterstroke, a sensational sequel to one of my favourite games and an absolute must play for people who enjoy simple, cinematic, and irreverent fun,” Edward wrote in his review. “The shift in perspective, the upgraded graphics and sound design, and the hard lean into satirical humour have launched it easily into one of my favourite games of 2024. I highly recommend that you suit up and hit the Hellpods soldier, I’m doing my part, are you?”
