An Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense Controller Is Coming And It Looks Amazing

Yeah, I'm gonna need one of these.

Update: PlayStation Australia has confirmed that the Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense wireless controller will be available to pre-order at Aussie retailers from August 9th at 10AM AEST, and will cost $124.95.

It seems that PlayStation is as serious about it’s upcoming exclusive 3D platformer, Astro Bot, as we could’ve hoped it would be, going as far as unveiling an official, Limited Edition Astro Bot DualSense wireless controller that looks the absolute goods.

This special controller features a stark white shell accompanied by striking blue accents on the handles and buttons, neat embellishments that are actually carved-in to the controller and not just decals, and Astro’s iconic digital peepers on the touch pad. It’s a genuinely great-looking piece and perfectly captures the game’s vibe.

The controller will go up for pre-order on August 9th in most regions, with Aussie retailer info hopefully arriving by this morning, and will launch alongside the game itself on September 6th.

We’ll update when we know more.

There are probably few games as deserving of a themed controller as Astro Bot, too, given the importance of the DualSense both to Astro’s world and the actual gameplay experience. The controller’s unique capabilities are a key focus in play, and Astro himself gets around on one as his own, adorable spaceship.

“We know many of you were hoping for this after seeing the game trailer. So, we quickly asked our lovely bots to engineer this beauty and tada! No, no, I’m just kidding; it had been in the making for some time, carefully crafted by the amazing teams at SIE. And what splendid work they did,” writes Team Asobi’s studio head, Nicolas Doucet, on the PlayStation Blog.

I recently went hands-on with Astro Bot and had a ripper of a time, writing, “I couldn’t show you even 30 seconds during my time with Astro Bot that didn’t feature something new and exciting for me to see or do. It’s a celebration of what makes 3D platformers so compelling as much as it is a celebration of all things PlayStation, and powered by the platform’s new de facto mascot it’s entirely emblematic of the sheer wonder to be found in video games. If the final product has me grinning and cheering even half as consistently as these handful of stages did, it’ll be tough for anything to beat Astro Bot out as the most joyful game of the year.”

And if you’re invested in the current ARG-esque updates and riddles in Astro’s Playroom in the lead up to the new game, we’ve got all the answers here.

Astro Bot launches on September 6th exclusively for PS5. You can learn more about the game, as well as find out the cheapest pre-order prices, bonuses and more in our guide right here.
