Hot off of announcing the August line-up of PlayStation Plus Extra and Deluxe games, September’s first PS+ Extra catalogue title has already been revealed and it’s a brand-new game launching day one into the service.
Joining forces with developer Possible Futures and Devolver Digital, who also announced the release date of the game on all platforms, the PlayStation Blog revealed that The Plucky Squire will be included with the month’s Extra/Deluxe drop on September 17th for PS5.
In case you’ve somehow missed the buzz around the game before now, The Plucky Squire comes from the team at All Possible Futures, founded by James Turner (an ex-Game Freak designer and Pokémon artist) and Jonathan Biddle (creative director of the excellent The Swords of Ditto), and follows the adventure of a storybook character named Jot who finds himself plucked out of the two-dimensional pages of his book and into the 3D world.
With that premise, the game will see players jump between the 2D and 3D world via other books and decorative objects to solve puzzles, play mini-games and fight heroic battles, and it looks positively delightful. Brodie wrote in his most recent preview, “If the fourth chapter levels I observed are anything to go by, The Plucky Squire is going to be one hell of a charmer. It’s consistently clever and wholesome, and I found myself grinning ear to ear with every new string it adds to its bow.”
