People went into an absolute frenzy since the PS5 Pro was announced late last week, buying the PS5 Disc drive from anywhere that had it available due to the PS5 Pro not including one in the box.
It had sold out on Amazon before the announcement before JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman and Big W sold out with The Good Guys being the only retailer that had it left in stock, but it is now letting customers know that it cannot fulfil orders and instead providing a $20 good will credit for the next purchase.
I have to say, it’s giving shades of 2020 when The Good Guys in particular took a load of PS5 pre-orders that they couldn’t fulfil and had to give customers a goodwill credit.
It’ll be interesting to see how Sony handles this in the lead-up to launch, as seemingly stock is going to sell out for this quite quickly and it is required for anyone upgrading with a PS5 disc collection
The email from The Good Guys reads: “Thank you for your recent online order for the Sony PlayStation 5 Console Disc Drive (166605).We have received an overwhelming response for this product and unfortunately, Sony have just advised us that they are now unable to secure stock of this item for you in a timely manner. We have therefore cancelled your order as per our Website Terms of Sale and have begun processing your refund. Please note that the time it takes to receive your refund will usually be within 3-5 working days, but it will depend on your payment provider. In appreciation for your understanding, we have included a $20.00 store credit* which you can apply towards your next purchase with The Good”
The PS5 Pro goes on pre-order on Thursday, September 26th at 10:00am AEST. It will retail for $1,199 in Australia (without the disc drive).
