PlayStation’s State of Play closed with a first, enormous look at the new Cory Barlog-led title out of Sony Santa Monica, God of War Laufey, set in the God of War universe.
The game appears to be set parallel to the events of 2018’s God of War, as Faye passes into The Everywhen, an afterlife realm for the gods, beyond the mortal veil, as Kratos journeys to deliver her ashes to Jotunheim with Atreus.
Deborah Ann Woll reprises her role as Faye, while Jack Quaid and Perlina Lau join the cast as Phranque and Rue respectively.
Based on the characters seen, and with the realm being an afterlife for gods, the game appears to tap into mythologies other than Norse, like Tibetan and Egyptian. With flying lions, talking swords, and gelatinous cubes, it’s clear they’re going to some cool places with this spin-off.
The gameplay, as expected, feels a bit quicker-paced in its action with a significant focus on magic. There’s also a very cute critter who accompanies Faye on her journey through this quasi-purgatory.
God of War Laufey is listed as coming soon to PlayStation 5 consoles. You can wishlist the game HERE.
