Bethesda Has Confirmed That The Elder Scrolls 6 Is Now In Early Development

Hopefully it won't drag-on.

Starfield’s still a day out from its early launch, but that hasn’t stopped some folks from already turning their attention to Bethesda’s next big RPG – The Elder Scrolls VI.

Given it was first revealed at the same E3 presentation five years ago as Starfield, Bethesda fans are no doubt wondering how far along the successor to Skyrim actually is, and thanks to an interview published by Vandal with the company’s vice president of marking and communications, Pete Hines, we have a slightly better idea.

The good news is, The Elder Scrolls VI is in development. The not-bad-but-less-exciting news is that it’s very much still in early development. That’s still progress from when we first learned of the game in June 2018, at which point it was only in pre-production, but it’s clear (and fairly obvious) that the studio’s focus has been squarely on Starfield for the majority of that time.

When asked about the status of The Elder Scrolls VI and how long fans can expect to wait for it, Hines told Vandal (machine translated), “We’ve put all of our studio’s focus on making this game [Starfield] the best it can be. And yes, there are people working on The Elder Scrolls VI, but this is what the studio has focused on. So no, you’re not going to hear about The Elder Scrolls VI any time soon. Starfield is our focus for now, and it’s going to remain our priority for a while before we talk about anything else.”

“It’s in development, but it’s in early development,” Hines clarified.
