Despite the fact that the game is yet to be fully unveiled, it feels like we’ve been talking about Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 for ages at this point. It was teased in the announcement of the joint Xbox Games Showcase and “mystery” deep dive, before Activision started to spin up some attempts at viral marketing and eventually lifted the curtain on the logo, and now fans are sort of just waiting for that big event to drop all of the news they’re keen to hear.
One bit that has seemingly revealed itself early though, is some insight into the spread of platforms the game is seemingly headed to, and if embattled US video game retailer, GameStop’s, information is to be believed this won’t be the Call of Duty entry to finally break away from console hardware that debuted more than a decade ago. According to an internal employee memo, which came with the advent of customer reservations opening up for COD:BLOPS 6 at the retailer, the game will still come with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions when it releases later this year.
The listing specifically calls out PS5, PS4 and Xbox Series X retail SKUs, though that’s the typical cross-generation physical launch spread with the Xbox version encompassing both generations. Insider Gaming has corroborated the photo of the pre-order SKUs which was originally shared by Call of Duty fan account, CharlieIntel. The outlet also claims that the series will begin releasing on Nintendo hardware, as per a deal made at the height of Xbox’s court battles over its Activision Blizzard acquisition, with the “Switch 2.”

Of course, it’s often that retailers like GameStop make their best assumptions in order to get pre-orders in the door and aren’t always correct, so until we hear it from the studios and publishers themselves we still don’t know for sure whether BLOPS 6 will land on the ageing previous-generation platforms.
