Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice’s New Trailer Is Horrifying

Ninja Theory’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is one of those titles that has somewhat drifted below the radar for me, but its new trailer has made me stand up and pay attention.

Hellblade is said to be Souls-like in terms of combat, which is a slight departure to Ninja Theory’s DmC: Devil May Cry, which was certainly more breakneck in terms of its ferocity and speed. More interestingly is that Hellblade draws heavily on Norse and Celtic mythology and takes a look at the concepts of mental illness, trauma and a heap of other heavy themes.

The embedded ‘Hela’ trailer certainly does well to depict the nightmarish inner war that protagonist Senua is struggling with as she’s confronted with a horrifying giant man-baby monster that wouldn’t like out of place in Silent Hill.

What’s most impressive about Hellblade is that it’s got the look of an AAA title despite being developed on a tiny budget by a team of only twenty people.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice releases August 8 on PlayStation for the low price of $44.95.  It’s also coming to PC.
