Melbourne Is Now The Home Of Esports

Melbourne is set to be the home of the biggest esports event in Australia coming September with the inaugural Melbourne Esports Open.

John Eren, Minister for Tourism and Major Events, announced the massive deal today, which is set to attract the world’s best gamers and thousands of visitors from all over the world.

“The Melbourne Esports Open is a massive scalp for Victoria, tapping into one of the world’s most popular sectors of the sports and entertainment industry. We’re turning Melbourne Park into every gamers dream – giant screens, the best talent and latest technology. With millions of gamers both at home and abroad, it’s time to bring all the action and fanfare of esports to our backyard.”    

The event is currently planned to fill the likes of Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena and the Melbourne Park Function Centre, with the hopes of 10,000 people gracing the facilities each day. It’s exciting news and a huge step forward for the Australian gaming industry and esports. With event partners like TEG Live and ESL to deliver the event in Melbourne until 2022, the MEO is set to be something big!
