It’s been a wild old career trajectory for Shannon Noll over the last sixteen years. From a spectacular second-place finish on the first-ever Australian Idol to kindly offering to pleasure a concert-goer’s missus and mum at the Duck Creek Races.
The great man is as iconic and as dyed in the wool Australian as Vegemite.
But he’s saved his strangest pivot for this past weekend at PAX Australia where it’s been announced that the “What About Me” crooning larrikin would be heading up his very own esports team, known as the Motley Squad.
Nollsie’s team, whose name deftly dances around what might have been a guaranteed case of copyright infringement, is set to compete at Lenovo’s League of Champions event this November.
Hazz, a prolific player in his own right and a member of FaZe Clan, will be mentoring the unlikely heroes as they get set to do battle. It hasn’t yet been confirmed what game Nollsie’s team will be trying their hand at, though we’re expecting it to be out of CS:GO and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
Whatever the result, it’s a must-watch event.
