After a brief reveal, Yoshinori Kitase took to the stage to detail the remake which is said to now take up two Blu-ray discs worth of content. Though we didn’t seem to get much clarification on the game’s overall release plans, aside from the fact that the first part features Midgar only, we did get a look at the game’s new gameplay mechanics which appears to be more in line with recent Final Fantasy releases having done away with the original’s turn-based combat.

The slice of combat also showed off a tactical mode which allows you to slow down time, giving you time to plan and strategise mid-combat. We then get to see Barret and Cloud tag-teaming a Scorpion Sentinel which is as chaotic as it sounds.

Final Fantasy VII releases March 3, 2020.
