It’s not uncommon for Halo games to hide secret endings behind completion of the Legendary campaign.
In the original Halo, we got a silly, non-canon scene that shows Sgt. Johnson dancing with an Elite as the Pillar of Autumn’s core implodes, taking the ring world with it, while subsequent secret endings served to set up sequels in the blockbuster franchise.
Equally as silly as the original’s, Campaign Evolved’s Legendary ending shows Johnson relaxing on a beachfront, bathing in nostalgia as he watches his dance routine with the Elite.
As seen in the ending, posted to YouTube by Overlord Actual, he eventually boards a Pelican to escape the ring’s destruction, but not before turning to the camera and declaring: “See you in the sequel.”
Now, of course, this isn’t confirmation that Halo Studios are working on a remake of Halo 2.
However, with the games sharing countless assets, the studio now working with the more streamlined Unreal Engine, and the fact that many of the sequel’s “new” features, like vehicle hijacking, were ported forward to Campaign Evolved, it wouldn’t be surprising at all.
Our review of Halo: Campaign Evolved went up earlier this week, as we awarded it a 9 out of 10, stating:
“Despite missing its iconic multiplayer component, enormous replay value, welcome modernisations to both gameplay and visuals, fixes for decades-old pacing issues, and a three-piece prologue make Campaign Evolved an exceptional way to experience Halo’s legendary single-player campaign, which remains a sci-fi blockbuster to this day.”
