16 Unmissable PS4 Games Releasing In 2017

After releasing two brand new pieces of hardware in 2016, 2017 seems to be all about the games for PS4. We’ve highlighted 16 of the best PS4 exclusives below.

Gravity Rush 2 is a follow up to the PlayStation Vita title. The game focus on Kato who is able to manipulate gravity which allows for incredible unique movement and navigation. The original game was one of the best PlayStation exclusives in recent years and the second looks to be better in every way. It’ll release on January 19th exclusively on PS4.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is the next game from Guerrilla Games. It’s an action RPG that follows the story of Aloy who lives in a world that has been overrun by robots. I’m excited for Horizon: Zero Dawn for many reasons. Guerrilla Games have been exceptional with the Killzone franchise but this marks an exciting step away from the series for them. It’s the flagship PlayStation title for 2017. It will release on March 1st.

Originally scheduled for release in 2015, Gran Turismo Sport is the thirteenth game in the Gran Turismo series and the first to release on PS4. It’s set to mark a new generation for Gran Turismo. It’ll include VR support which has my interest piqued somewhat, but with games like DriveClub and Forza Horizon 3, my racing fix is satisfied currently. It’s due for release sometime in 2017.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrificed is being developed by Ninja Theory who have previously developed both Heavenly Sword, Enslaved and DMC. The combat in Ninja Theory games are top-notch and I’m super excited to see what they bring to the title with Hellblade. I was a huge fan of both Heavenly Sword and Enslaved so count me in for this. It’s a console exclusive for PS4 and it’s due for release sometime in 2017.

Drawn to Death is a free-to-play third-person-shooter developed by David Jaffe’s studio. David Jaffe is the mastermind behind titles such as God of War and Twisted Metal. It’s an extremely stylised four-player arena shooter set inside the pages of a teenager’s notebook. I’m excited for the game as it looks like a refreshing step away from all of the other shooters on the market currently. It’s due for release in 2017.

Nier: Automata is an upcoming action role-playing game being developed by PlatinumGames. It is set in the same universe as Nier which is a spin-off of the popular Drakengard series. It’s set in a proxy war between machines created by invaders and the remnants of humanity. It follows the story of a combat android and her companion.  I’m not a huge action RPG fan but it appears that Nier: Automata is doing everything right in terms of gameplay and graphic style. It’s due for release on March 10th, 2017.

Detroit: Become Human is the latest game by Quantic Dreams. Quantic Dreams were responsible both the story-telling phenomenons known as Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls. It revolves around several playable characters who are all androids. It is said to be based heavily around quick-time-events. I was a big fan of Heavy Rain, but Beyond: Two Souls felt quite confused. I’m hopeful for a return to form from Quantic Dreams. The game is due for release sometime in 2017.

Farpoint is one of the only PlayStation VR exclusive games that Sony have on the way in 2017. Your character works for the United Earth Project with the task of surviving on a baron planet. The PlayStation VR Aim Controller will be released mainly for this game. It differs from the Sharpshooter in the sense that the VR Aim controller is built in with motion and navigation sensors. Farpoint has held my interest ever since it’s announcement. It is due for release sometime in 2017.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is the first standalone expansion to the Uncharted franchise. It stars both Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross as they adventure through India as Chloe seeks out The Tusk of Ganesha. It is Naughty Dog’s largest expansion to-date. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy definitely has me interested as I have no doubt that this could be Naughty Dog’s last hurrah with Uncharted so I don’t doubt that they’ll want to go out with a bang. it is due for release sometime in 2017.

Matterfall is an upcoming PlayStation Store game from Housemarque. Housemarque are responsible for PlayStation titles such as Resogun, Super Stardust and Alienation. You follow an unexpected hero fighting for survival on a ravished sci-fi world. I’m excited for this game as it appears that the game is right up Housemarque’s niche. The game is due for release in 2017.

Wipeout has been an absolute staple of PlayStation, releasing on every console since the original. It’s now time for Wipeout to make it’s mark on PS4 with the Wipeout: Omega Collection which brings together all of the content from Wipeout HD, Fury and 2048. All of them are remastered in dynamic 4K and HDR. I’m incredibly excited for this collection. It was thought that the Wipeout franchise was dead so I’m excited to see it alive and well on the PS4. It’s due for release in 2017.

Dreams is the latest game from Media Molecule. The developer are responsible for Little Big Planet and Tearaway. In the game, you control an IMP with your DualShock 4 or PlayStation Move controller. As with Little Big Planet, the game is still very much based around creating, playing and sharing. I’m incredibly excited for the game. Little Big Planet is one of the highlights in PlayStation franchises, and Dreams looks like it’s absolutely no exception. There’s a chance that it might see a delay, but Sony are sure it’ll release in 2017.

One of the most anticipated games of the year, RPG Persona 5 is the sixth instalment in the Persona series. It will take place in Tokyo and follow a silent protagonist. The game was delayed out of 2016 in the West after releasing in Japan. It will now release in April 2017 as a console exclusive on PS4.

Knack 2 is the sequel to the PlayStation 4 launch title developed by Studio Japan. It is an action beat em up game. The sequel will improve on the original game which was a big hit with the younger demographic. It will incorporate proper co-op. It is due for release in 2017.

Pyre is the next game from Supergiant Games. Supergiant Games were responsible for Transistor and Bastion. The game is a party based action game which is set in a high fantasy setting. The game is a console exclusive on PS4 and is set for release in 2017.

Parappa the Rapper is one of the most iconic games in PlayStation history, originally releasing on the original PlayStation. The remaster will be in stunning native 4K which will allow you to keep to the beat better than ever. It’s due for release in 2017.
