When rumours swirled of a game set within the Titanfall universe, many began to salivate at the mere idea that we might finally see a follow-up to Titanfall 2. Of course, Apex didn’t fill that void though it exploded onto the scene, clawing control of the battle royale market and smashing apart the supposed monopoly that Fortnite held at the time.

For that alone, Apex should be applauded, it forced changed in others who’d grown rather comfortable atop their tower. It’s impressive in its own right of course with a cast of superb heroes and insanely tight gunplay that elevates it above others that have tried and failed to rise to the top of gaming’s biggest genre.

Press Start Australia didn’t publish a review for Apex Legends, though the team was fortunate enough to attend the press event for the game prior to its release.

During that hands-on, Brodie said: “Apex Legends definitely isn’t Titanfall. Not as you remember it, anyway. The war has long concluded and there are no titans to be found, though the guns bark the same and where Titanfall 2’s unforgettable campaign taught us Respawn could pen characters we’d grow to love in less than five hours, Apex Legends proves that it was anything but a fluke. There’s so much fun left to be had, so I’ll meet you in the Outlands.”

Apex Legends holds a score of 89 on Metacritic.

Ewan said: Following a year dominated by Fortnite, Apex Legends literally came out of no-where and turned the genre on its head. With a roster of ‘legends’ as charismatic as those we’ve grown to love in games live Overwatch, Apex set new standards for battle royales games and regularly issued updates without dividing the community. Aside from some rather overpriced cosmetic items, Respawn has listened to their fans and grown a significant cult following looking for an alternative battle royale that’s more grounded yet faster-paced.

Shannon said: Apex Legends was the first game that I really got into this year, and probably the most successful new IP of 2019. It’s the most fun that I’ve had with a game in recent memory, and playing with the Press Start team night after night is something that I’ll never forget. It’s been a joy to watch how Respawn have continued to tweak and add to the game as well.

Congratulations to Respawn Entertainment and EA for nearly a whole year of Apex Legends and for winning our #7 spot this year.
