Activision and Treyarch invited us to COD NEXT in Las Vegas to spend some time with the game, chat with the team and learn about everything coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
Call of Duty is once again shaking things up for Multiplayer fans with the soon to be released Black Ops 7. Set in 2035, Multiplayer delivers an arsenal of new, near-future weaponry and gear, where weapon systems have been overhauled down to the smallest detail to match the
era, as well as bringing with it 30 new weapons and 18 launch maps. With a variety of new features and additions, the restructuring of mechanics, and new takes on fan favourite elements, there’s plenty of fun for COD fans to jump into come launch time.
Treyarch has officially lifted the lid on some of the newer elements coming to Black Ops 7, like the new Wall Jump mechanic. Players will be able to chain up to 3 wall jumps together and from what we could tell from our hands on experience, majority of ‘wall like’ surfaces will allow you to perform this move – with some more obvious walls dedicated to its traversal flow. Other new gameplay elements like the grenade body shield finisher and the ability to move whilst mounted are also some new features that players should get excited about and try out for themselves.

Speaking of new additions, Black Ops 7 introduces the new Overclock System to the multiplayer arena. Players can now customise their Tactical and Lethal Equipment, Field Upgrades, and Scorestreaks using the Overclock System, supercharging gear and unlocking enhancements that works best for their play style during a match. The Overclock System will progress as you play, and once you’ve reached your Overclock level, you’ll been given two ways to enhance that item and use in match.
All new Scorestreaks have also made their way to Multiplayer. Players should be eager to try out newcomers like the D.A.W.G, a dog-like robot companion that will wander the map being a not-so-good boy to the enemy team, or the Rhino, a remote robot and pretty much Treyarch’s futuristic version of the Juggernaut. Players will also find other new score streaks like the Gravemaker (an Advanced Tech Sniper), the Skewer (think a katana wielding missile), and the VTOL Warship (inspired by BO2’s VTOL Scorestreak). There’s of course fan-favourites returning like the RCXD, UAV and more.
In the new 6v6 Overload mode, squads clash over one device that must be carried into enemy territory to score. Momentum swings sharply as the device changes hands, making every pickup, player escort, and interception a pivotal moment. Black Ops 7 also welcomes Skirmish as a new game mode – an all-new, 20v20 adrenaline charged MP mode that blends a variety of objectives, new tools including wing-suits and grappling hooks, and intense vehicle warfare into a massive experience – it’s Black Ops large-scale combat, redefined.

Alongside these newer additions, the Treyarch team have also decided to make some particular combat updates to Black Ops 7 following what they observed in previous games and with community feedback. Players will now need to choose some of the newer perks added to the game in order to acquire particular movement options – so things like tac sprint and ADS whilst sliding, diving and wall jumping are no longer there by default. Players will have to add the perk which gives tac sprint or the ADS ability to their loadout, which opens up more creative possibilities and fresh dynamics to provide more fun and player agency in every encounter.
Another change coming to Black Ops 7 Multiplayer is Hybrid Combat Specialities. Adding to the popular Perk reward for stacking three of the same categorised Perk in your loadout from Black Ops 6, the team has grown this feature once again. The Tactician 3 stack will now give you Support Slayer, which will allow players to earn bonus score for bullet kills after assists for 10secs; The Scout 3 stack will give Stealth Slayer, which hides players from the mini map; and Operative 3 stack will give Stealth Support, which provides and additional field upgrade charge.
It’s a whole new way to play Call Of Duty Multiplayer with new weapons, maps, loadout structures and movement, which is sure to keep players on their toes and fingers on the trigger to show the opposing team exactly what their made of.
For Call Of Duty fans eager to jump into the Black Ops 7 Multiplayer experience, the Black Ops 7 Beta Early Access runs from October 2-5 and is available to all players who have pre-ordered, have an early access code, or are subscribed to select Xbox Game Pass plans, with the Open Beta running from October 5-8.
