5 Tips To Get Ahead In Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5 is finally out today, and after having spent a lot of time with it I’ve got some tips for those wanting to get a foot up on the Eden’s Gate followers nice and quickly. Here they are!

1. INVEST IN MORE HEALTH AND INVENTORY SLOTS FIRST

A new addition to the Far Cry series, after the game’s opening you’ll find yourself with a slew of perks to choose from to upgrade your character. Perk points are unlocked by completing challenges, which range from accumulating kills to getting a certain amount of animal skins.

When you start getting perk points, I’d recommend diverting your attention to purchasing upgraded health perks and more inventory slots for weapons. This will not only give you an advantage when in conflict with the Eden’s Gate cultists, but it’ll also give you a greater variety of ways to take outposts and challenges on.

2. DON’T SLEEP ON PREPPER STASHES

Throughout Hope County you’ll find residents who will give you information about prepper stashes, which are basically small puzzles that you have to solve at a specific area on the map. These puzzles aren’t too difficult, and they reward you with a lot of gear and perk points.

For a good chunk of my opening hours with the game I visited as many prepper stashes as I could, grabbing new weapons and perk points in the process. The latter is especially important in upgrading your character, and you’ll get a nice wad of cash to use to upgrade your weapons and the like in the process as well.

3. TALK TO EVERYONE THAT HAS A PROMPT ABOVE THEIR HEAD

Another big change in Far Cry 5 is the way you interact with the people in Hope County and how that correlates with map progression. Rather than climbing massive towers throughout the region to unlock points of interest in the game, you’ll instead have to talk to local residents in the area in order to find out about outpost locations, prepper stashes, and characters of interest.

I’d recommend talking to everyone you see with a prompt above their head, as they usually always have some sort of useful information to share that correlates to an activity on the map. Similarly, a lot of residents that have been captured or held by Eden’s Gate cultists will also have something to share — so take out those crazed lunatics holding them and gain some intel on Hope County. You’ll also rack up resistance points this way, and will be well on your way to taking down Joseph Seed and his crazed cult in the process.

4. COLLECT ALL THE ANIMAL SKINS

While animal skins serve a different purpose in Far Cry 5 — now being used as sellable items in shops rather than being used for ammo upgrades and whatnot — they’re still hugely important in keeping your cash flow coming.

Every time you see some sort of animal — whether it’s a deer, a grizzly bear, or a damned wolverine, I’d recommend taking them out and gathering their skin to sell at shops. It sounds bad, I know, but it’ll net a good amount of money per skin and you’ll be able to use those funds to upgrade and customise your weapons, replenish your ammo, and so on.

5. DON’T IGNORE GUNS AND FANGS FOR HIRE

If you don’t have a buddy to play through the game in co-op with, I’d really recommend hiring a gun for hire to accompany you on missions and activities. They’re divided up into a handful of different categories — as some are good at long-range combat, whereas others are solid at close encounters — but all remain useful when things get a little tricky.

Similarly, you’ll also be able to hire fangs for hire (which are dogs, cougars, and the like) that you can unlock by doing a small mission for the affected party on the map. Trust me, it’s worth it when you can call upon a cougar to rip and tear through a whole squad of Eden’s Gate followers when you’re in a sticky situation.

So there are a handful of small tips to help you get ahead nice and quickly in Far Cry 5. The game’s fantastic, and the aforementioned tips should help make your life a little bit easier as you take the fight to Joseph Seed and the Project at Eden’s Gate.

Far Cry 5 is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
