After being dubbed “crimezone” and the majority being shut down in the late 1990s, Timezone is set to make a return with shopping malls in Australia actively seeking out arcades to build in their complexes.
A new look Timezone concept opened at Pacific Werribee in Melbourne in late 2016.These new Timezone centres are set to expand beyond whack-a-mole and airhockey creating lastertag, bowling and other larger environments.
Timezone opened five new arcades in 2016 with the board recently signing off on a massive expansion program. The company is set to double its stores in Australia.
It’s clear that arcades make parents nostalgic as it’s a much preferred way of playing games rather than the screen time of an iPad or iPhone.
