It’s Time For The Government To Respond About Games Funding in Australia

Today, the senate passed a motion prompting the government to provide its response to Environment and Communications References Committee report ‘Game on: more than playing around, the future of Australia’s video game development industry’.

They have until 3 pm on June 14, 2017. That’s tomorrow for those playing at home.

Senator James McGrath said, in response to the motion, “The committee report made eight recommendations that impact a number of portfolios and, as such, requires careful consideration and development of a whole-of-government response.”

The government received the inquiry report in April 2016, so they’ve had the fourteen months since to respond.

The aforementioned statement from Senator McGrath suggests the government will not respond by the deadline. It that’s the case, McGrath will be compelled to provide the senate with an explanation.
