After a painful, drawn-out wait, we’re finally getting brand new avatars for Xbox Live. That’s right, feel that relief wash over you.

The new avatars, confirmed during Microsoft’s E3 weeks, were first put in motion when Microsoft posted job listings online. Microsoft were searching for prospective staff to help create “high fidelity toons”, designed to perform across a wide scale of devices. In other words, this is a further step toward unifying Xbox One and Windows 10 as gaming platforms.
I must say, I’ve had a lot of experience with the now far outdated avatars and these brand new models definitely look sharp.
If you ever dreamed of being a Pixar character, this may be as close as you get. And it appears that the options for customisation are extremely varied, with Microsoft making inclusion and diversity a strong focus in the reveal video.
There’s no official date, but I’d expect these new digital doppelgangers, dubbed Avatar 2.0, to launch in line with the Xbox One X on November 7.
