EA Cancelled Another Star Wars Game In Development

According to a report by Kotatu posted over the weekend, EA cancelled a spinoff game of the Star Wars: Battlefront series last spring. The report comes from six anonymous individuals familiar with EA’s workings who chose to speak out about the cancelled projects.

This is now the third Star Wars game that EA has cancelled since 2017. This latest game, code-named Viking, was supposed to be launching alongside the next generation of consoles in fall 2020.

Viking was planned as a spin off to the Star Wars: Battlefront series but never got off the ground. The game was supposed to be developed by EA Vancouver and Criterion and was planned to have a focus on story and characters with open world elements.

EA canned the project once it’s executives realised they were no longer on track to meet that timeline. According to the report, EA and Criterion were unable to find a way to cohesively work toward a goal with one of the sources even described the situation as “too many cooks”.

There is some good news to come out of this report, with EA supposedly having two new Star Wars games in development. A sequel to last years Jedi Fallen Order, as well as an unknown project being developed at EA Motive in Montreal.
