The Last Of Us’ Finale Broke First Day Records Yet Again

The show's been infectious.

HBO has announced that the ninth and final episode of its TV adaptation of The Last of Us has once again broken viewership records, pulling in 8.2 million sets of eyeballs for its premiere night. For comparison’s sake, episode eight topped out at 8.1 million while the very first episode debuted to 4.7 million viewers, so this week’s has come close to doubling that number for the second time in a row.

HBO says that The Last of Us has been the top title across HBO Max for the entire eight weeks it’s been airing, averaging over 30 million total viewers across the first six episodes. It’s also listed the full premiere night numbers for each episode:

THE LAST OF US Weekly Premiere Viewership:

  • Episode 1 – 4.7 million (Jan. 15)
  • Episode 2 – 5.7 million (Jan. 22)
  • Episode 3 – 6.4 million (Jan. 29)
  • Episode 4 – 7.5 million (Feb. 5)
  • Episode 5 – 11.6 million (Feb. 10-Feb. 12)*
