Nintendo Will Be Making Its Return To Gamescom This Year

Mario goes to Germany.

With Gamescom scheduled to happen this year on August 23rd – August 27th, at least one major vendor has confirmed they’ll have a presence at the show – and it’s none other than Nintendo.

The last time that Nintendo was in attendance at Gamescom was 2019, and with the recent news that it had declined to attend (the now-completely cancelled) E3 event this year it’s a big win for the huge annual expo in Germany. It also bodes well for the annual Opening Night Live event hosted by Geoff Keighley, which kicks off on August 22nd, and may yet contain some Nintendo-related surprises.

Could this be the year we see the giant, inflatable Sonic the Hedgehog do battle with a giant, inflatable Mario?

Tickets for Gamescom are on sale now, just in case you happen to be in Cologne, Germany this coming August.

Day tickets for Thursday, Friday and Sunday are 27 EUR each, which Saturdays are 36 EUR, and various discounted or family package passes are also available here.

Gamescom has a lot to prove this year with one of its only competitors in terms of sheer size and volume of content and audience being E3, which was sadly cancelled for 2023 due to a number of challenges.

Organiser ReedPop had said at the time of the cancellation announcement, “This was a difficult decision because of all the effort we and our partners put toward making this event happen, but we had to do what’s right for the industry and what’s right for E3. We appreciate and understand that interested companies wouldn’t have playable demos ready and that resourcing challenges made being at E3 this summer an obstacle they couldn’t overcome. For those who did commit to E3 2023, we’re sorry we can’t put on the showcase you deserve and that you’ve come to expect from ReedPop’s event experiences.”
