The Witcher 3 Has Officially Sold Over 50 Million Copies

O' valley of plenty.

CD Projekt Red has announced via social media that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a game considered one of the greatest modern RPGs, has officially hit a milestone of more than 50 million copies sold worldwide. That’s an immense number that puts it in league with the likes of Overwatch and Red Dead Redemption 2 and among the top 10 best-selling video games of all time.

In a separate tweet, CDPR also noted that The Witcher series as a whole has clocked over 75 million copies.

The tweet reads: The School of the Wolf is growing! Over 50 million people joined Geralt of Rivia on his Path of finding Ciri and defeating the Wild Hunt! Thank you for your enormous support over the years!”

A good portion of this number is no doubt bolstered by the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition on new-generation consoles late last year, which gave the eight-year-old game a well-considered visual and gameplay refresh. At the time we wrote, “Even if you’re new, the game now comes with all of the excellent expansion content and improvements made to the game in the years since its original release, so it already represents great value for money before the new-gen upgrades. Without a doubt, if you’ve been on the fence about giving The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt another go around or dipping your toes in for the first time – now is your moment.”

CD Projekt can probably expect to see a lot more cash roll in from the series in the future too, with multiple exciting new projects in the works including a brand-new mainline sequel, a full-on Unreal Engine 5-powered remake of the original game, another entirely separate Witcher adventure and a multiplayer-focused entry which was recently brought back to the drawing board. The third season of the successful Netflix series is set to premiere next month on June 29th, as well.
