Troy Baker And Anjali Bhimani Are Coming To Sydney’s SXSW For A Special Stray Gods Performance

Don't miss this!

The inaugural SXSW Sydney 2023 Games Festival is nearly upon us, coming up on Wednesday, October 18th until Sunday, October 22nd, and newly-announced plans for the event’s opening night should prove exciting for fans of Summerfall Studios’ recent Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical, as well as many other massive video games.

That’s because SXSW has just revealed that a couple of legendary voice actors in Troy Baker and Anjali Bhimani will be reprising their Stray Gods roles as Apollo and Medusa (respectively) to perform stirring renditions of tracks from the game, alongside Australia’s own Montaigne, as part of the SXSW Sydney 2023 Games Festival Opening Night on Tuesday, October 17th.

It’s a pretty special deal to have these two on our shores to perform, with Baker well-known for some iconic gaming roles like Joel Miller in The Last of Us, Higgs Monaghan in Death Stranding and Snow in Final Fantasy XIII. Likewise for Bhimana, who plays Symmetra in Overwatch 2 and Rampart in Apex Legends.

SXSW Sydney’s organisers describe the upcoming Games Festival Opening Night as a night of pure magic, with music and gaming intertwining on the grand stage. On top of the featuring Stray Gods in Concert, Sarah Wolfe is set to perform alongside composer Michael Allen in the debut of a new song featuring music from League of Geeks’ Solium Infernum. Industry and Platinum Badge holders can access the VIP area in the cocktail bar 2315 while Wristband holders can enjoy the performances from the Alienware Arena.

The SXSW Sydney 2023 Games Festival itself will include a heap of events and activities, including a showcase of over 150 indie games from the APAC region featuring the likes of Another Crab’s Treasure, The Dungeon Experience, Bo: Path of Teal Lotus, Kinder World, Wood & Weather, Gubbins, The Godfeather and many more (see the currently-announced lineup here).
