A Treasure Trove Of TimeSplitters Concept Art Has Surfaced Online

Heart-breaking.

Following the unfortunate news of the closure of Free Radical Design, and in turn the all-but-sealed fate of its in-development return to the iconic TimeSplitters franchise, a veritable gold mine of concept art from the game has now wound up online.

The materials come via The Vault: Free Radical Archive which has collected hundreds of images from a number of the studio’s ex-staffers who’ve updated their portfolios online or shared their work on social media in eulogy to the game that never was.

You can find all of the art here, which includes everything from gorgeous-looking environments like Wild West towns, frozen outposts, sci-fi cities and military bases along with in-game items and a heap genuinely great character models including a heap that fans will recognise.

Plaion, the publisher under the Embracer Group umbrella responsible for Free Radical and TimeSplitters, officially confirmed the studio closure last week after early reports circulated. It issued the following statement to VGC:

“It’s with a heavy heart that we must announce yet another difficult decision. Today, we have to confirm the official closure of Free Radical Design, and say goodbye to many remarkable, talented and hard-working people.

“We are beyond grateful for their incredible contributions to PLAION and wish them the best of luck and success on their professional journey from here on out.”
