First announced during the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase that dropped overnight, we now know a bit more about Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, the shiny new version of 2010’s Wii classic, Epic Mickey, including that it’s also coming to PlayStation, Xbox and PC and will be a remake/remaster seemingly on a similar scale to 2020’s SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated.
In fact, the remake is being handled by THQ Nordic and developer Purple Lamp, who developed Rehydrated as well as last year’s wholly original SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake. The studio says the game will feature “state-of-the-art visuals” as well as improved controls and new movement capabilities for Mickey. The game’s Steam page also features the first screenshots, although we don’t yet have a release date aside from “2024.”
“I’ve received more heartfelt fan mail from players of all ages about Disney Epic Mickey than any other project I’ve worked on – a true indicator of the timelessness of this game,” said Warren Spector, director of the original Disney Epic Mickey in an accompanying press release. “That my team and I contributed to that legacy is truly an honor and I’m delighted that old fans and new will get to enjoy the adventures of Mickey and Oswald in Wasteland once again.”
