Bandai Namco has revealed that Tekken 8 has managed to rack up over 2 million copies sold globally in just its first month since launch. That puts it on a similar track to last year’s Street Fighter 6 and further solidifies a resurgence of great fighting games in recent months that also includes Mortal Kombat 1 and Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, among others.
The post announcing the milestone reads:
“2 MILLION FIGHTERS
“Thank you to all the players who have been duking it out in Tekken 8!
“The King of Iron Fist tournament will keep on growing with new exciting updates, the start of TEKKEN WORLD TOUR 2024 and so much more.”

“The sale of over 2 million copies in the first month of release greatly outpaces its predecessor, Tekken 7, which is still being played and has the series’ total highest sales record of over 11.8 million copies worldwide,” the company has added separately.
It was revealed recently that Tekken 8 will be updated to include an in-game shop where players can purchase costumes, avatars and other cosmetic items with real money, something it doesn’t have currently.
“As part of regular updates, the Tekken Shop will make its way into the game. This in-game shop will provide customisation items such as costumes from previous instalments, character skins for avatars, and licensed items from our collaborations, letting players put their own touch on their favourite Tekken characters,” Bandai Namco said in an announcement that naturally has fans divided.
We scored Tekken 8 a huge 9/10 in our review, with Matt saying, “Tekken 8 shows just how easy it is for a long-running franchise to remain fresh and relevant, while still offering a familiar experience to established fans. An engaging Story Mode coupled with Character Episodes keeps the narrative running, while Arcade Quest and Tekken Ball gives newcomers the opportunity to learn the ropes. While some fans may not like that their favourite character is missing from the roster, Tekken 8 fills the gaps with fresh new faces and the hint of more characters on the horizon. It’s time to get ready for the next battle!”
