The Sinking City 2 Has Been Announced And Will Focus More On Survival Horror

Can't wait to dive in.

During today’s Xbox Partner Preview showcase, developer Frogwares dropped the debut trailer and announcement for The Sinking City 2, a sequel to its 2019 Lovecraftian action/sleuthing game that’s coming to Xbox Series X|S as well as PS5 and PC in 2025.

The studio says it’s taking a different direction with The Sinking City 2, giving it more of a survival horror lean than the previous game or anything the team has done so far. In a standalone story set within the infamous city of Arkham in a version of the 1920s United States, players will face an Eldritch nightmare that includes monsters and abominations roaming the rotting streets as rising water levels twist the landscape and bring horrifying mysteries to the surface.

The game will run Unreal Engine 5 and feature a semi-open world that changes over time with the rising waters, melee and firearms combat with limited resources and inventory management as well as detective-style puzzles that this time will be an entirely optional part of the game.

“The original Sinking City is still one of our most successful titles, most likely because of stronger horror genre leanings and setting,” Publishing Director Sergiy Oganesyan said in an accompanying statement. We created quite a few detective adventures in the past, so now we’re going to mix things up to keep doing what people love about us – meaning story-rich experiences – while still being able to evolve. It’s exciting but at the same time risky. We’re a totally independent studio that for the past 24 years has become known for detective games. But we need to start taking bolder moves. The industry is changing around us and we want to secure the studio’s future.”

As Frogwares is headquartered in Ukraine, which is still in a state of war, it’ll be launching a Kickstarter both to help fund additional features for the game as well as create a financial safety net during development. It’s not launched yet, but you’ll be able to find updates at the game’s Kickstarter page as they happen.
