The Fallout Games Have Seen Huge A Player Count Increase Since The Series Dropped

The wasteland is getting busy.

It was all but inevitable, with all eight episodes of the Prime Video series having dropped last week to rave reviews, but the massively-increased player counts across recent Fallout games (at least as far as we know thanks to Steam) is still mighty impressive.

The weekend in particular saw some astronomical gains in titles like Fallout 76, which managed to poll its highest-ever Steam player count as a result of Fallout fever gripping the world in recent days (and no doubt helped along by a week of free play courtesy of Bethesda). It wasn’t just fans and newcomers looking to forge their own shared adventures in the wild wastes of the series’ most recent, online-focused entry though, with both 2015’s Fallout 4 and 2010’s Obsidian-led Fallout: New Vegas seeing a healthy bump up in engagement over the last week.

The SteamDB account on X shared the below graph (and live page here), highlighting that player counts had “more than doubled,” though that’s not based on the games’ entire timelines and just on recent data:

Fallout 4 in particular should continue to see a resurgence after Bethesda revealed it’s finally launching the long-awaited current-generation patch for the game on April 25th, giving it its own native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions as a free update for existing owners and adding updated visuals and other improvements along the way.

We recently shared our own review of the Fallout series after being able to watch it in full before its public release. In the review, Brody said, “With a surprisingly riveting original story to tell, Fallout is a rollicking ride through all-too familiar wastes. It might not prove to set the world on fire, though with enough fan service to shake a Ripper at, it’s assured to start a flame in the hearts of long-time fans.”
