Production has officially begun on the film adaptation of Supermassive Games’ 2015 horror game, Until Dawn, nearly seven months after we first learned of its existence.
The news was shared via a new account for the film on X, and comes a few days after reports that Peter Stormare, who playes Dr. Hill in the game, would also feature in the movie. He’s joined by a new main cast that includes Maia Mitchell, Belmont Cameli Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo and Odessa A’zion.
As previously shared by Hollywood Reporter, Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg is helming this adaptation, while the script comes from Blair Butler (The Invitation) and Gary Dauberman (It, Annabelle) so there’s some decent horror talent on board here, and the film is being described early as “an R-rated love letter to the horror genre, centering on an ensemble cast.”

The film is coming in part from PlayStation Productions, which has really ramped up its efforts to adapt PlayStation titles to screens both big and small, with recent releases including the Gran Turismo and Uncharted movies and TV adaptations of The Last of Us and Twisted Metal. Still on the way are films based on Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushima and Gravity Rush along with God of War and Horizon television series.
A re-release of the game is also coming to PS5 and PC later this year, featuring revamped graphics and improved gameplay.

Those looking for constant action may be disappointed, but I’d advise anybody who wants a unique and new experience to give it a go.”
