Nintendo has had some weird ways of stopping newer game carts from working in older systems (we all remember the 3DS notch), and it seems like the Nintendo Switch 2 will be no different.
As spotted by Nintendeal, it looks as though in addition to being red (instead of black), the Switch 2 game carts also have a different indent that seems as though they’ll be recognised differently in the original Nintendo Switch.
From what we can see in the image, it looks like these carts will still fit into the original Nintendo Switch (unlike the 3DS cart that had an extra bit to stop them being inserted), but we’re assuming that the difference in shape will be enough for the original Switch to recognise that it’s a Switch 2 cart being insert and therefore can’t be read.
We’ll need to wait until launch (or Nintendo to confirm) which it is, but it’s an interesting little tidbit that no-doubt Nintendo has thought a lot about.
The Nintendo Switch 2 launches on June 5th. You can read our hands-on preview HERE.
