UPDATE: It has been brought to my attention that Mario + Rabbids is actually the second Nintendo Switch game to reach number one. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe did this back on release in April, so technically it’s the first new Switch game to release the game, but it’s the second overall to reach this status. Still an amazing feat for a brand new IP.
The Nintendo Switch has been incredibly unlucky to not get a number one game in Australia thus far. Breath of the Wild was beaten by Horizon Zero Dawn, Mario Kart 8 had AFL Evolution and Splatoon 2 had Crash Bandicoot to contend with, but they’ve finally done it. Courtesy of an unlikely collaboration, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is the first Nintendo Switch exclusive to reach number one.
