According to reports published by ComicBook, it is very possible that Nintendo is currently working on a Switch port for the Wii U’s New Super Mario Bros. U. The rumors suggest that the Switch port will include the New Super Luigi U add-on as well some additional console-exclusive content that is yet to be described.
Sources indicate that ‘New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe‘ may be the title of the rumored upcoming Switch port, an homage to Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, a 1999 enhanced port of Super Mario Bros. for Gameboy Color. While this title certainly follows the typical formula when it comes to naming Nintendo’s ports, (See: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe) it’s unclear whether the title is an internal placeholder or the official title for the game’s impending release.
At the time of writing, there is no indication when Nintendo will release or even officially announce the prospective port but the original source suggests that we could see New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe as early as quarter 4, 2018. In July of this year, Nintendo President, Tatsumi Kimishima, revealed that there is more to come for the 2018 fall line-up on Switch and it’s possible that this was one of the titles Kimishima had in mind.
