Earlier this year we reported on the possibility of Outlast 3, following the extremely cryptic post from developer Red Barrels that featured just a single image and the claim that an announcement would be coming soon. Fortunately, that announcement has now been made and Red Barrels has officially announced The Outlast Trials.

Set in the era of the Cold War, The Outlast Trials will allow players to face the horrors that await by themselves or with other test subjects… ?

This latest project is indeed set in the Outlast universe, as the name suggests but will provide players with a vastly different experience since they will now have the opportunity to face the horrors of Outlast world with up to three other players in a co-op experience. The game, set in the cold war era, is still very much in the early stages of development but the proof of concept has apparently proved a success and developers seem optimistic about the final product.
We don’t know much about the release of Outlast Trials just yet but for readers that are interested in catching up on the franchise so far, Outlast, Outlast: Whistleblower and Outlast II are available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Steam and Nintendo Switch.
